On a recent trip to Broken Hill, I visited the Broken Earth Café/Restaurant and Visitor Centre which is located on the highest point of the Line of Lode, a remnant mullock dump which transverses the City of Broken Hill. The designer of this striking structure is Christina Carayanides and the project was commissioned by the University of South Australia.
If you are visiting Broken Hill, I can also recommend The Regional Art Gallery, The Royal Exchange Hotel for fine accommodation, and a personal favourite — a 1950s classic milk bar located in East Broken Hill called Bell’s.
But the most beautiful experience I had during my travels, was the drive from Mildura to Broken Hill. A three hour journey through a landscape that demanded respect for the ancient lands and its peoples.
